The art of micro adjustments.
I wanted to post about a conversation I had with @inbusinessandlife while we were hiking this weekend. It reminded me of my racing days and an important lesson I learned.
As an amateur driver, especially in the beginning, I would get so caught up in all the stimuli that occurs when you’re moving at high speeds out on the track. As a result, I got myself into some sticky situations, including a few 360 spins and unintentional off-roading (kind of feel like a badass writing that but it’s not so cool when you’re mid-spin praying not to touch the guardrails 😬)
What I quickly learned from my wise old instructor (yep, my father) is that I was making a huge mistake. I was so caught up in the noise (terror) of driving that I wasn’t checking in with myself or my car to make adjustments along the way. As a result, those errors accumulated until I had to make a huge correction to keep the car on track, and ended up throwing things way out of balance.
This couldn’t be closer to the way many of us lead our daily lives. We are so caught up in the day to day that we don’t take the time to check in with ourselves. With our emotions, our intuition, and our bodies. So we ignore those little signals, until they become loud cries for help, and are instead forced to make big adjustments to compensate. Check in with yourself daily, make micro corrections along the way, and keep yourself in a (somewhat) balanced state. It’s so crucial to our well-being, and avoiding those guardrails.
Life by Design was born out of a need for my own self-healing after decades of unresolved illness. It wasn’t until finding the courage to look within that I discovered it was my own belief system holding me back from experiencing a truly thriving life. We all have access to that thriving life. We just need to rediscover our power and ignite the healing-self. Only then can we unapologetically live a life by our own design.
