"Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we'll ever do." - @brenebrown
Usually I would write something metaphoric about racing and life for this photo. I started to, but I let my mind wander into the depths of the 'gram and landed on this quote by @brenebrown. I posted it to my stories in celebration of NYC Pride today (my twin brother @jongaymondi would of pulled me out of bed early in the morning to head to it if I was there).
What struck me the most about this post was her answer to a comment below from someone who asked:
"What does owning our story mean? I read three books and still don't understand it, would someone help me?"
"This is who I am. This is what I believe. This is my history. My love. My pain. My courage. My imperfections. My power. My vulnerability. All of this is me. Including the really bad shit. I own all of the stories and I get to write the ending. So often we orphan and/or disembody the parts of us that we don't believe will be acceptable to others, but those parts matter too because we must own them to change them. Does this help?"
Yes, @brenebrown, this helps.
Life by Design was born out of a need for my own self-healing after decades of unresolved illness. It wasn’t until finding the courage to look within that I discovered it was my own belief system holding me back from experiencing a truly thriving life. We all have access to that thriving life. We just need to rediscover our power and ignite the healing-self. Only then can we unapologetically live a life by our own design.
