I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I used to think time was our most valuable asset. Then I realized the value of our attention. This past week, I did a little inventory of my attention. Carefully watching myself from a somewhat detached presence to notice where my attention goes and ultimately, where my energy flows. That included people, projects, and things of course - but also my thoughts. Where does my mind take me when I let it wander? Some of those thoughts were certainly not places I wanted to be. If we want to get scientific (neuro-scientific to be specific), they aren't routes I want to run in my brain. That electricity is better used elsewhere. If I do allow them to stay, giving them my attention and energy, they become my mind, ripple down to my body, and make their way outward into the world. Or, in the case of my past, I do my best to keep them tightly locked inside, knocking at the exits with no escape, and the battle turns inward. That's their power. Stealing our attention before we even knew it was ours to begin with. People, projects, things, thoughts; they are all vying for our attention because attention is expansive. What we focus on grows, positive or negative. So take back your power. Channel that attention into the people, projects, things, and thoughts that create more energy, not less. Like money and time, attention should be invested wisely. Because at the end of the day, you are your most valuable asset. Invest in yourself.

Life by Design was born out of a need for my own self-healing after decades of unresolved illness. It wasn’t until finding the courage to look within that I discovered it was my own belief system holding me back from experiencing a truly thriving life. We all have access to that thriving life. We just need to rediscover our power and ignite the healing-self. Only then can we unapologetically live a life by our own design.
