“Wellness is measurable, wellbeing is a state of being.” - @deepakchopra
Listened to a great podcast while I got ready this morning with @deepakchopra and @jasonwachob. Deepak spoke about the difference between wellness and wellbeing. Wellness in the past has included mostly measurable aspects, i.e. our blood pressure, heart health, even mind, body, and emotional quantifiers. He describes wellbeing as the ultimate goal and essentially the sum of all those parts into a quality of life. In his definition; wellbeing always includes a spiritual connection, a highly conscious state (mindfulness and presence), and spontaneous joy - including peace, love, compassion, and empathy. Of course, these things are all interdependent.
It took some distilling and a lot of tapping the rewind button (while simultaneously trying to apply mascara) to translate that message into my own thoughts but it really resonated with me. I truly believe wellbeing is the new wellness. I think we can focus so much on what we’re eating, how we’re exercising, and what self care practice we’re implementing, but forget about what all of those things amount to - feelings of happiness, love, and the energy, clarity, and freedom to be our best selves in this world. That’s the ultimate life by design. See what I did there? 😉
Life by Design was born out of a need for my own self-healing after decades of unresolved illness. It wasn’t until finding the courage to look within that I discovered it was my own belief system holding me back from experiencing a truly thriving life. We all have access to that thriving life. We just need to rediscover our power and ignite the healing-self. Only then can we unapologetically live a life by our own design.
